Visa Exemption on arrival in Thailand
We get asked regularly the following questions and so thought we would share them with you. If you have any burning issues or questions please do free to ask away.
Depending on your passport you may not need a tourist visa and can enter with a visa exemption? A list of the exempt countries can be found at the Thai Embassy website
For example if you are from the US, Canada, UK, OZ, NZ and many places in Europe you can arrive visa exempt and stay for 30 days for free. (Do read the other requirements detailed in the above link). If you intend to visit a second country while in this part of Asia your visa exempt for Thailand stops when you leave and on return to Thailand by air you can get another 30 days for free, if you go via land border crossings you may get a further 30 days but again this is restricted to certain passport holders see the same link above. All other passport holders will only receive a further 15 day visa.
“I am told that I need to provide an address in Thailand but I want to travel around what address can I give”
You can call your Thai embassy and ask their opinion of what address is needed. It is not uncommon to find different “interpretations” of various Thai regulations at different embassies. We do offer our guests the facility to use any of our hostels as a mailing address, and if necessary we would contact the guest via email or social media should there be a need to do so.
