Although shopping on Koh Chang can be very limited, products that are available can be purchased almost any-where in Thailand so don’t expect much variety other than the usual mix of souvenirs, beachwear, Thai paintings, CDs and DVDs and sunglasses, (including copy goods which you can buy cheaper in some of the bigger cities on the main land)
Shops are often located close together along the road of almost every beach. If you’re too tied up in a good book or concentrating on your sun tan, beach sellers usually roam the beach and displaying their products right in front of you, they sell in the main handmade accessories and scarves.
Bang Bao Pier
Bang Bao is an old fishing village that has now largely been redeveloped for visitors to Koh Chang. It has spread out on a long pier that juts out into a large bay and which has now sprouted any number of side arms and sub-piers. There are lots of shops selling everything. There are also a number of excellent seafood restaurants that come into their own as the sun sets over the bay. The pier is also home to several dive shops, a police station, a health centre and a convenient store. Many of the island’s boat tours depart from here as well as ferries to Koh Mak, Koh Wai and Koh Kood. It is worth the walk all the way to the end of the pier where you will find an ornamental lighthouse that offers some great views to those that climb it and an ideal photo opportunity.
