Overall a good place to stay for backpackers who wants to meet people, good sleeping area and lobby to sit and chat with people. only one of the workers who seemed she rather be home then working behind the bar but no problem. 4 out of 5 for a cheap hostel like this!

All in all i really enjoyed my stay. Good staff Very clean Great food being cooked and a wide range to choose from at the bar. The location was pretty central to most attractions. It can get a bit loud down stairs at times with the music but next time i will take earmuffs

  28. ryan Torode - January 13, 2015 10:41 am

The back packers was quite nice and very clean with lovely friendly staff that would help you out with what ever you needed.
the air con in the rooms was a luxuary that was much apreciated
all and all i would recomend asian back packers to all travelers to stop in for a meal and some where to put your head down.
a great and friendly bar that bosts all that pattaya has to offer from pool table , to good cheap food , great bar all the way to the night life of pattaya in cluding a glims at the lady boys
all in all a great place to stop of at.

I was only in Pattaya for a few nights but would have loved to stay longer, it’s a thriving, noisy, colourful and in places steamy but it also has its own character, it’s not Bangkok as the heat and humidity is not so over bearing and there are fewer people jostling about at a hundred miles an hour, it has the same great multitude of markets and food stalls and in my humble opinion the prices of which are cheaper than the capital.
While the beaches are not the same as those found on the multitude of islands dotted around this great country, they are at times over crowded and spoilt by the thousands of beach umbrellas they are still a welcome break from the concrete roads and building of the city. I can see why so many Bangkokians flock to this place each and every weekend and why they treat it as their playground; I would recommend anyone travelling to Thailand to stop off here if only to see and be a part of Thai’s at play in their own back garden.

Just wanted to say I could not agree more with the comments from Anna here about what I had heard about this supposed den of iniquity! yes it has its dirty and sleazy side to it but we have seen worse in other counties, the hostel is really well situated and there is so much to do here I would suggest you have to visit this place just to see it for yourself and make your own opinion. For us it was fun and I am glad we came.

  33. Anna - March 1, 2014 7:39 pm

On this my third post on my trip to Asia and Thailand I remember sitting in a mini bus bound for the seediest city on the planet, that’s if you believe the hype…and I did, as everything I had ever read told me this was a place to avoid like the plague, I also remember thinking was I right to listen to Josh and his wife (the hostel owners), they had already changed my mind on backpackers and backpacking after spending time in my first ever hostel on the beautiful island of Koh Chang but were they really putting us right on Pattaya?
We arrived to find the hostel right in the middle of this big, 24 hour city, surrounded by bars, restaurants, clubs and hotels, we were met by the same warm welcome we received in the first hostel, this time by the owner Param and his wife, a great start as I still did not know what we would find. As with the other hostel the people were ‘normal’ and unlike most of the older posts I have read they were not sleazy at all, the hostel owners were able to provide details on all the events and tours to be found in and around the city and it was just as Josh had said the city does have its sleazy side (I have seen as much in European cities) but the majority of holiday makers and the people that work in the city cater for families and couples, my stay was the opposite to my stay on the island, crazy busy and full of noise, while it was a total contrast it was great fun and I was able to see the party side of the Thai people and I admit I loved it.
What I have learned from my trip is quite simple, backpacking is great fun and a lot easier and friendlier than staying in hotels and that Pattaya should be somewhere to visit not avoid.

Hi Anna could not agree more with your comments we had heard all the same things on how bad this place was, only to find that it is not

  34. Dave wilson - February 21, 2014 11:47 am

Where do we start we arrived in Pattaya after hearing all the bad things about this city, but was pleasantly surprised to find it is really a terrific place to stay and explore and there is no better place for a base camp than Asia Backpackers, thanks, thanks and thanks again….. a great hostel in a great city.

This is the follow on from my first and only post on my travels in Asia, what I did not mention before and must now come clean… I am not normally a ‘backpacker’ I had viewed hostels with more than a degree of disdain and in truth stayed in my first venue on this trip to Thailand, I must also confess that my opinion has changed 100%, the hostels I stayed in were well run, more than just affordable and full of people with the same aims, to travel and see the world not as a 2 week holiday maker, without exception they all wanted to get closer to the real country they found themselves in.
My first experience of a hostel came after allowing a friend to book our accommodation, if I had known in advance I never would have agreed to stay in a Hostel, in truth this turn of events allowed me the opportunity to enjoy possibly one of the best trips I have ever had. In my last post I briefly wrote about Asia BackPackers in Koh Chang and how they changed my opinion on backpackers and backpacking, the time there was a delight and I was able to get closer to what I believe is the real Thailand, they also arranged for me to travel to Pattaya and to their nearest Asia Backpackers sister hostel, I know ‘Pattaya’ I had heard all the stories about the place, how it was full of sleazy bars and even sleazier people but as Josh stated (the owner of the hostel in Koh Chang)
“You have your perception of backpacking changed what will you lose by visiting Pattaya yes the place does have its seedier side but it also has 7+ million visitors per year who can’t all be sleazy”.
So off we went to what if I believed the hype would be the biggest brothel in the world, that’s the second time in only a matter of weeks that my preconceived, perceptions would be shattered.
More on my stay in Pattaya to follow
