News on what’s going on in February in Thailand.
February is not just the month of the Chinese New Year here in Thailand, the 2nd Thai Lunar month is also jammed pack with a vast variety of festivals and fairs, celebrating a multitude of events, from the spiritual; paying homage to the Lord Buddha, displaying respect to local deities, revered people, city pillars and a host of guardian angels/spirits.
It can also be simply a time for the Thai people to celebrate a local custom or annual harvest. What-ever the reason you can expect a warm and genuine welcome from the local Thai people.
Below is a selection of such festivals, fairs and special events with links to the relevant Wikipedia web page, those highlighted in orange will link you to a more detailed description of the event as posted on our Asia BackPackers web site. I have detailed the region along with the province so you can more easily pick an event to attend if you are lucky enough to be in Thailand during this special month.
Do note while some of the events may not have the most interesting of names and the descriptions on the links do not do the events justice, one thing is for sure, once you immerse yourself in the FREE festivities you get a sense of just how they are a window to the vibrant history of the Kingdom of Thailand.
While the individual events all have their own uniqueness they do share one thing, they are filled with jaw dropping vibrant colours, ear splitting noises and mind blowing smells. Combined this rich tapestry will fill all your senses and leave you with fond memories of your time in the ‘Land of Smiles’
