When planning to travel I have found the following 3 lists to be an invaluable guide on how to build the skeleton of a travel plan.
1. The first list is your ‘Wish List’ write down all the things you would love to do while here, it could be taking part in the crazy water festival that is Songkran or it is your heart’s desire to visit a specific place, what-ever it is, write it down as it is this list (plus the money you have at your disposal) which will drive your planning.
2. This list is all about the fact that every country has its own and in some cases unique regional Holidays & Festivals, it is therefore straight forward to list these and check if any overlap your intended stay. Add those that you would like to see to your ‘Wish List’. The down side to this is that you should expect your accommodation costs to rise during these events.
3. The last list is what I would describe as my ‘Every Day List’ Thailand like any other country has its own Religion, national past times, sport, culture and food, therefore this list will contain the myriad of things to do that will be pretty common throughout the Kingdom.
With theses 3 lists you simply take a map and pin the places you have identified from list 1 & 2 with their specific dates and duration, you can then research the travel options from one point to the next and the accommodation costs. You use the last list (Every Day List) to fill in things to do while in each location or to break up a long journey.
